加国五台山石刻弥勒菩萨雕像开光庆典

  加国五台山弥勒菩萨开光庆典将于2017年6月19日上午10:00在加国五台山举行。石刻弥勒菩萨雕像高13米，重700吨，每块原石有2.4立方米，头部重达27吨，为一整块石头雕刻而成。雕像巍峨庄严，惟妙惟肖，乃出自当代名家之手。说起这尊弥勒菩萨的来历，却是由一个梦境感应而来，此中因缘实是不可思议。

 

  那是筹建四大名山的时候，一天晚上，达义大和尚从五台山归来，很是疲劳，正似睡非睡，忽听有人说：五大菩萨为何只做四尊，弥勒菩萨呢？达义大和尚梦醒，心想五大菩萨就是少了弥勒菩萨！心中知是菩萨示现提醒。次日，达义大和尚就去五台山看地形，发现山门前面一块缓坡刚好适合安放弥勒菩萨。后来达义大和尚向一位居士说起此事，这位居士便发心独立承担弥勒菩萨雕像的建造。就这样，加国佛教四大名山有了五大菩萨。

    CONSECRATION OF MAITREYA BUDDHA STATUE
    WUTAI SHAN BUDDHIST GARDEN IN CANADA

     


     

      The consecration ceremony for Maitreya Buddha status will take place on June 19th, 2017 at Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden in Cavan Monaghan, Ontario, Canada.

     

      This statue is 13 m. high and weighs 700 tons. It is made of large pieces of stones, each of them are 2.4 cubic meter in size. The head of the statue is crafted from a single piece of stone that weighs 25 tons alone. The crafting is vivid and artistic, manifesting the solemn and compassionate characteristics of Maitreya Buddha. And the story of this Maitreya Buddha is very symbolic as well.

     

      Ven. Dayi Shi was almost fast asleep one night from a trip to Wutai Shan construction site. Suddenly he heard someone asking him, “Why are you only building four Bodhisattvas while there are five of them? What about Maitreya Buddha? When he woke up from the dream, he realized that Maitreya Buddha was indeed not in the plan. He then knew immediately that it must have been a lead from the Buddha.

     

      Without further ado, Ven. Dayi Shi went to the site again the next day. He noticed that the slope in front of the Gate was the perfect site for a Maitreya Buddha statue. On another occasion, Ven. Dayi Shi mentioned this plan to a donor, who happily offered to finance the project. Hence there are five Bodhisattvas in Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden.

     

      The story of this Maitreya Buddha statue is a living evidence of Buddha’s love and compassion to all beings. And the consecration is a great chance to experience that. We sincerely invite all of you to join us on this special occasion.
